Thoughts About Success From Some of the Greatest Achievers of All Time

Success is an elusive term. We'll simply categorize success here as the attainment of your own personal goals, whatever those might be. When we struggle in life, success might seem too far off to attain. We look for road maps that might work in our favor, or some blueprint as to how we might best meet our goals. The best lessons often come from the great achievers who came before us.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill

Failure is not the enemy - it won't kill us unless we allow it to stop our progress. If you have a goal in mind but can't seem to attain it, the answer isn't in giving up. The answer is in re-evaluating how you're trying to achieve it.

"All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure." – Mark Twain

The fun with Twain was that even when he was being sarcastic, he had a point. Confidence in your goal and your own ability will bring you far, farther still if you don't realize there's a chance of failure.

"Success is most often achieved by those who don't know that failure is inevitable." – Coco Chanel

This Coco Chanel quote echoes Twain - in both we can learn that when we don't concentrate on the danger of failing, we have a better chance to succeed.

"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing." – Abraham Lincoln

Many people don't realize exactly how many failures Lincoln went through before he attained any measurable success, and look at the impact he left. Here we find that the will to succeed outweighs the obstacles.

"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." – Henry Ford

Most important undertakings meet some form of resistance - the best things don't come easy. Remember that when your goal is met with many challenges and keep in mind how important success is when meeting each hurdle.

"Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration." – Thomas A. Edison

This Edison quote is probably the most repeated thought on success, because it is accurate. True achievement isn't easy. Working hard at one set goal will lead to progress.
